Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident happened on the third rotation when track officials were observed on the racing surface as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to replace his damaged front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a active circuit marshals can be allowed to just dash across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was advised that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the governing body

"During the third lap, marshals were informed and made ready to enter the track and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch officials were rescinded and a double yellow flag was displayed in that area"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred after that point"
